FLYING SCOTSMAN AUDIO CD. 44 MINS.

There can hardly be a better-known steam locomotive in history than No.4472, the Flying Scotsman, and now the glorious sounds of this steam icon can be experienced again on this nostalgia-packed CD. Previously only available on vinyl as part of the Stanley Schofield Sound Stories collection, these amazing recordings have been digitally remastered.

The Flying Scotsman went into service in January 1923 and plied her trade for four decades - notching up the first authenticated 100mph recorded by a steam locomotive. After more than two million miles, No.4472 left King's Cross in London on January 14, 1963, for her final trip in service. The venerable loco was facing the scrap yard until businessman and rail enthusiast Alan Pegler stepped in, leading efforts to restore her and ensure she retained her place in the affections of a nation.

Mr Pegler, accompanied by the distinctive sounds of this steam great, narrates many memorable journeys undertaken by the Flying Scotsman in retirement, giving listeners behind-the-scenes stories of each of these amazing trips. Paddington to Cardiff, a journey over the Forth Bridge, reaching 92mph on a trip to York and much, much more are captured on this essential addition to any enthusiast's collection.

Let the train take the strain from the final trip in service to the historic sounds of a steam train leaving Marylebone Station, and transport you back to a golden era -close your eyes and let the unmistakable sounds of a legend carry you away.
