Aberdeen Corporation Buses  TWELVE 6x4 Colour Prints

This set of TWELVE 6x4 ins colour prints recalls Aberdeen Corporation Transport, the most northerly municipal operator in the UK. We open with 2 views showing the nearside and offside views of CRG809, which had been ACT No 9, but was renumbered 40 to make way for a batch of Leyland Tiger Cubs. No 40, a 1947 Daimler CVD6 half cab single-decker with a later 1958 Alexander C35F body, is at the Corporation depot at King Street. ACTD No 4 was one of the 1966-68 Tiger Cub PSUC1/13s with a DP Alexander body on the 14 route. Daimler double-deckers predominated for many years, the CVG6 being the most common. DRS358, which began as No 158, and was renumbered 108 and then 88, is an exposed radiator CVG6 with Weymann body and is at King Street. No 201, heading for Union Terrace on Route 24, is a 1955 Daimler CVG6 with Crossley H34/29R bodywork, with headlights faired into the tin front. ACTD No 270 was the solitary Daimler CVG6 with Metro-Cammell H37/29R body, to be supplied in 1958, and was numbered in the middle of a large batch of AEC Regent Vs, one of which, MRS273, ACTD No 273 is also seen. This Regent V MD2RA6G with Alexander body was one of the final batch of five Regents to enter Corporation service. In 1960, ACTD acquired 12 Daimler CVG6 with MCW bodywork, including No 281. The Corporation continued to have faith in the half cab double-decker, with a further 45 with Alexander bodywork coming between 1961 and 1965, including No 306. It is interesting to compare the differing body styles of the two builders. The first twelve Daimler Fleetline CRG6LX rear-engined double-deckers arrived in 1966, including No 102 at the intersection of Guild St and Exchange St. ACTD No 138, a J-registered CRG6LX-33 shared the same general body styling that characterised Alexander bodywork at this period. No 16 was one of ten AEC Swift MP2R with the fashionable standee bodywork of the late 1960s.  A copy of these notes accompanies the set. These views are copyright. Aberdeen Corporation Buses  TWELVE 6x4 Black+White Prints Set BW-1

In the late sixties, Aberdeen Corporation Transport indulged in a lot of renumbering, so DRS301, which had been ACT No 101 became No 91. It is a Daimler CVG6 of 1950 with Weymann H33/27R body and is leaving King St depot on route 10. DRS330, of the same delivery had retained its old number 95 and is departing for the rush hour on route 18. No 98, DRS298), again a 1950 CVG6, is on training duties with L plates at King St. DRS363, a 1951 CVG6 with a 1960 Alexander H37/29R body is on route 1 to Balgownie. The 1947 CVD6 single deckers had been renumbered into the 40, so GRG809 had become No 40 and is post with ACT staff outside King St depot. We have two further views showing this twenty year old half cab single decker heading off into service. KRG236, No 236 is a tin front Damiler CVG6  of 1957 with Metro-Cam H34/38R body with the headlights faired into the engine casing. No 324, a CVG6 of 1964 with Alexander H37/29R body is on a private hire for the British Medical Association and we see the cobbles streets and granite buildings of old Aberdeen. Aberdeen No 43 was an AEC single decker with a Walker B34R body of 1939 and was rebuilt in 1954 as sand lorry No 1. We have views of both sides of another ACTD lorry conversion, this time it is  ARG83, former bus No 83, which started life in 1939  as a Daimler COG6 with Walker body and was cut down in 1960 to become Lorry No 5. A personal memory of this day is that en route to the depot on foot, a motorist mounted the curve and ran over my foot, but I got the photos even though I was in pain!   A copy of these notes accompanies the set.
