Yorkshire by Richard Blome 1673

Copper engraved map on hand laid paper. Later/ modern hand colouring.

Richard Blome (active 1669 - 1705) was a heraldic writer and cartographer working in the latter half of the 17th Century. He was a prolific, but not at all original, worker and indeed was frequently accused of plagiarism, although it must be said for him that he usually made no attempt to hide his sources.  This map appears in 'Britannia, or a Geographical Description of the Kingdom of England, Scotland and Ireland' based on the most recent editions of John Speed's maps. The maps were engraved by Wenceslaus Hollar and Richard Palmer (active 1680-1700).
