Considered by many to be the holy grail of FDR medals, this unique medal was struck in bronze. Features an exceptionally high relief bust of Roosevelt on the front and the words “Franklin Delano Roosevelt 31st President of the United States 1933-1937 John Nance Garner Vice President”

The reverse side of the coin features a detailed graphic of the U.S.S. Constitution “Old Ironsides” (it’s said this was inspired by a picture in FDR’s extensive naval art collection), with a winged goddess below the ship. The words “Thou Too Sail On O Ship of State Sail On O Union Strong And Great” are also struck on the back.

Only 1,500 were ever struck, with many unsold and consequently later destroyed. Not many known to be in existence.

This coin has been slabbed by the PCGS and given a grade of SP64
