---About Titanium and Metal Reactions---
Around 15% of people have a reaction to metal next to or through the skin. This is a large percentage of people, it means they can struggle with earrings, body jewellery, buttons or zips. For most of them the reaction is to Nickel or Cobalt. These elements are often mixed with other metals (alloys) or used in the manufacturing process. They can slowly leach out and cause reactions.
Gold is the perfect example of this. 100% gold is too soft to be used for most applications, so it is mixed with other metals to make it tougher. The other metals could be anything, and it is very hard to find out what they are mixed with. 9ct gold contains 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% other metals. 18 karat gold is only 75% gold, so this means that a quarter of your 18 karat gold earrings could be any other metal! This lack of clarity and certainty about what you are using is part of why we started.
