Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Scottish Agate Lovers Knot Brooch

Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Scottish Agate Lovers Knot Brooch

Product Description

A fabulous antique Victorian lovers knot brooch hailing from Scotland in the late 19th century, c1880! The 3-dimensional piece is crafted in sterling silver and forms the shape of a lovers knot which was a popular motif in Victorian times, carrying the symbolism 'eternal love,' 'fidelity' and 'commitment'. An array of four varying Scottish agate stones have been inlaid into the coiled tube design. The polished agate stones display lovely warm Autumnal tones of burnt orange, beige, bottle green and dark orange, and some exhibit natural inclusions which adds further character. A hand engraved pattern decorates the front silver surface and there is a criss-cross pattern at the ends. A pin and 'C' connection attaches to the back of the brooch, the pin has good tension.

A wonderful piece of Scottish history which would add a special touch to the scarf, lapel or wherever you desire to show it off. Charming!

The overall condition of the piece is very good. Besides normal surface wear and a few minor back dings to the brooch it is in relatively good order for the age. There is a small chip to the green agate which can be seen upon close-inspection, but worth a mention. A light hand polish has been given to the brooch, however still retains a natural darkened patina, it can be further polished if you desire. The pin works well with good tension. A wonderful antique piece!
