This is an Estate Fresh old Figural Legend or Poem Statue from a long time collector of Asian artifacts and Porcelains.  I will have many pieces upcoming in my listings.  This Fine carved and etched Soapstone piece is a Rabbit on a pedestal with a poem or Story inscribed around the base which takes place on the Green River.  The Rabbit is a symbolic creature for Wit, Caution, Skill Virtue, Melancholy yet Dazzling.  I have a posted an attempted translation to the story below, though some of it is not quite as clear as a literal translation.  The Gist of it goes as follows...

The journey was outside the green hills and sailed in front of the green river.
The tide is full, and the water between the two banks is wide, and the sailing boat just hangs the sail.
The night has not faded away, the rising sun has risen slowly on the river, and in the old years, the south of the river has a breath of spring.
The home letter sent out does not know when it will arrive. I hope that the North Goose will go to Luoyang.
Author of the Tang Dynasty verse according to the inscription is Wang Bay

Its an outstanding early piece, the stone has great colors of a Green Grey and Red.  The carvings on the body of the piece follow the story.  They don't reproduce stuff this great, it is right as rain and all original.  A wonderful piece to any collection.
