Published in the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge World Atlas in 1844.

The Society for the Diffusion or Useful Knowledge was established in 1826 to provide scientific and othe information to the middle and working classes.  Up until 1848 when it ceased, the society produced hundreds of maps of all areas of the world.  In 1844 these maps were published all together in the World Atlas, at that time one of the most up to date and accurate to be produced.  The maps were engraved by John Walker (active 1759 - 1830) and his son Charles Walker (active 1825 - 1890) and the atlas was published by Chapman and Hall at 186 The Strand, London.

Page size is 40.5cm by 33.5cm
Map area is in good condition for age, engravings are clear. Some browning. Slight wear to the margins.
Blank on the reverse.
