DESCRIPTION:
A very nice, albeit diminutive early 20th century vintage American folk art hand made wooden checkerboard, featuring semi-transparent, dark walnut stained and clear lacquered pine alternation squares. Estate fresh and found right here in southern New Hampshire. Great color and natural, stained & lacquered wood surfaces. It was previously lacquered many years ago. The surface of the board is still somewhat reflective, with a satin finish. The gameboard is entirely fashioned by hand, with the maker using apparently ready-made or available wood, in this case an early piece of pine or birch thin plywood. On the back four corners, are crudely cut-out wood triangular corners or cleats, designed to keep the surface of the board above the table top it was placed, improving its stability. The back of the gameboard is signed in pencil 'Howard Krieser.' The back of the gameboard has a semi-transparent dark walnut wash, like the dark stained squares on the front. This early 20th century American vintage folk art gameboard is entirely hand fashioned and was made at a time of economic hardship and from an era when if you could make it yourself, you wouldn't have to buy it, which to many Americans at the beginning of the 20th century and during the Great Depression of the 1930's, made all the difference in the world. Very nice.

CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall vintage condition. There are a few very small flea-bites, minor scuffs and shallow abrasions, all commensurate with the gameboard's vintage pedigree.
