You are buying the white soft plastic column bushing. 

It fits mark 1 water cooled engine cars 1972 to 1979 

Rabbit Gti 80-84, 

80-84 Jetta gli, 

80-88 Scirocco 16V

74 to 79 air cooled engine Volkswagen Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type III, This bushing will remove ALL of the play in column when the steering wheel moves up and down.   Better than the  3D printed version cannot possibly meet the quality of a reproduction manufactured molded part. 

Check yours, if you can rock it up and down you have SLOP and it is not the bearing. In 40 years I have never found a bad bearing.

Bushing installs from behind the column assy housing bearing. Often thought that the big bearing has failed, it is only the bushing that is bad, fallen apart or missing.

If you have in and out play in your front wheel drive VW, the bearing at the bottom of the column tube has slipped out, push it back in, install a narrow european hose clamp around the shaft so the head of the clamp keeps it from sliding out again. You also need to check the u-joint bolts, even if they are tight, you may need to tighten them more, look for the joint rocking the spline.

If you have a super beetle, and the steering wheel moves in and out, the lower steering u-joint is bad, usually from rust causing the needle bearings to bind, break, fall out.
