Doubly-Marked Casserole
Dishes and Lids -
Some casseroles were doubly
marked 100 and 200 –
where a Victor Lid (200's) OR Ordinary Lid (100's) was available at the time –
marketed to fit either. Normal lids came later - these lids had an inner rim -
their numbers matched the Casserole OR Specialty item - but were designated
with "C" for Cover.
ALSO – some Casserole
Dishes and alike were doubly-marked as the often the item could be purchased
alone OR with a matching Lid. The first digit – 0 or 6 for this Casserole Dish.

Naming of Standard-Type
Casserole Dishes - PYREX MPN System -
022-622 – B, C - the first
digit - 0 - coming with no lid and 6 - coming with a lid - means this Casserole
is complete either way; the second digit - 2 - round dish; third digit - 2 -
(capacity x 2) - making this a 1-QT casserole; B - indicative of Bowl or
Base, C – indicative of COVER
622-OR-506-C – the latter
MPN belonged to a different PYREX item (Bean Pot) – as Lids were made in
standard sizes, shared by several products.
Glass-Mold
Overflow – when molded glass
ware was manufactured, often there would be seepage of glass between the mold
plates or forms. This glass-mold overflow was carefully
ground, sanded, polished down to flush – before items were mass produced. To
keep costs down for mass produced items, manufacturers did not address the
glass-mold overflow before sending to retailers – as this excess glass would
smooth, wear, or chip-away over time, with use – without impacting the
integrity of the glass form proper. So, those pieces which are barely-used -
tend to have some flea-bites & roughness on these types of edges.
