RARE VINTAGE HANS LISKA WW II ILLUSTRATIONS SKETCH BOOK - 1944 EDITION

RARE VINTAGE HANS LISKA WW II ILLUSTRATIONS SKETCH BOOK - 1944 EDITION

This Rare Vintage 1st Edition copy of HANS LISKA was published by Carl S. Werner of Reichenbach, Germany in 1944. Hans Liska was one of the most famous and prolific WW II Axis Illustrators who served with the German Armed Forces. In 1942 and 1943 the Carl Werner Publishing House published 2 albums of his sketches to help inspire and lift the spirits of the frontline soldiers and workers in the factories throughout Germany. Its 8 1/4” by 11 3/4” with soft board covers, a taped spine edge, and ties at the front edges to keep it closed. Its previous owner took the liberty of translating the German text into English but then also choose to tape these translated and typed notes to the inside front cover, to the copyright page, to the 1st page of the Introduction, and to almost all of the illustrated pages as I show examples of in my photos. I also noticed quite a few pages with what look like penciled notes but upon closer inspection the notes were part of the sketch before they were reprinted for this book. The translations at the front of the book were taped with making like tape as was the gutter inside the front cover. The translated captions for the illustrations used clear tape and I have not tried to remove any of them so do not know if they can be removed without damage. The taped spine edge and cover edges are well worn, and as you can see in my photos, the front cover is completely separated, but even as it, its a remarkable collection of historical images.  I have many other unique Antique and Vintage Collectible items listed on Ebay right now including other Antique and Vintage Rare and Collectible Books and other Ephemera, so please be sure to check them all out.
