UNDERSTANDING FLOKATI RUGS

Q- What determines the quality of a flokati rug?

A-     The pile length is a factor. However, what really determines the quality of any flokati is the GSM weight. (Grams per square meter)

You will see this in all our listings. This is how much wool is used to make the rug. The higher the GSM weight, the thicker the pile density.

Typical GSM flokati rug weights:

1400gsm              Fairly light weight flokati rug.

2000gsm              Better quality. Thicker pile density.

3000gsm              Very good quality. Most popular weight sold. Thick and plush.

4000gsm              Excellent quality. The thickest density and longest pile.

 

Q- Can flokati rugs be vacuumed and machine washed?

A-     Flokati rugs can be brushed, vacuumed and machine washed. (Depending on size)

Brush: Use a stiff bristle plastic hairbrush to occasionally brush the wool. It will clean the wool topically and make the pile look great.

Vacuum: You can vacuum your flokati. The trick is not to go forward and backward. Place the vacuum in the middle of the rug and pull it back toward the edge. Then repeat.

Wash: Use a mild detergent like wool-lite. Use plenty of liquid fabric softener. Air dry or tumble with NO heat. *Optional— brushing the wool as it dries will make the wool straighter.
