ITEM: Earrings. Goldtone. Small size (2 other pair listed are Med & Large). Cartouche with many Egyptian symbols on it. Obtained in LUXOR EGYPT, November 2019 at a street souk/bazaar. Top has a Cleopatra looking head, followed by Lion, and 2 different birds with other generic symbols. Photos taken in various lighting to show variance in shading. The raised parts are shiny gold, background is slight shadow
ATTRIBUTES:
The shape of the earrings are a CARTOUCHE. The pharoahs and royalty would identify themselves by name in the form of a cartouche. These were written in stone heiroglyphs or inscribed on caskets. You can learn more by googling "pharonic alphabet" or lettering.
Luxor was once known as the ancient city of THEBES. It rests on the Nile River in what is known as "upper Egypt" (which is more like in the center/lower half). There are many ancient sites it is famous for, with many still being discovered today. Most famous are Luxor and Karnak Temples, Queen Hatshepsut's temple, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and a few lesser known temple sites. It is steeped in history and Karnak is a mecca and very important temple site having so many different areas inside dedicated to various dieties and being the largest temple complex in Egypt.
