From 1932-1934 one very famous pottery designer, Clarice Cliff, became involved in a short lived, yet historic attempt to bring together the forces of the Pottery and Glass Industries and contemporary artists. Included artists and industry companies involved in this endeavor were Thomas Acland Fennemore, Art Director of E. Brain & Company, Foley China, along with the artist Graham Sutherland and the designer Milner Gray. Leading artists of the day were invited to contribute designs to be made in bone china by Foley and in earthenware by Wilkinson's Ltd. The completed designs toured the country, having been shown first at the Harrods Exhibition of 1934.

These are hand-painted and the last picture shows an example of paint smudges that some pieces may have.  I find no chips.
Each piece is marked on the back - Designed by Graham Sutherland, A.R.E., produced in Bizarre by Clarice Cliff, Wilkinson Ltd, England, Copyright Reserved, First Edition, 1934.
