Sometimes the motor which operates the parcel shelf winglets fails. within the motor, there is a drive shaft that wears down and no longer drives the gear; stopping the motor and causing it not to open or close the roof. 

This is when you open the motor and check If it's the gear that's been worn out or the drive shaft.
