Pleased to offer a James & Ralph Clews "Romantic Ruins" Plate; circa 1825; Fascinating Repair Job.  This is a fun plate for a lot of reasons; it's dynamic looking, it's Clews (which I am fond of) and it's got the most fascinating repair job I've ever seen.  If someone can explain it to me, I would love to know what the pinkish circles have to do with stabilizing the plate; I'm used to staples only and I love "battered beauties" and the obvious fact that someone cared enough to fix them.  The pattern is "Romantic Ruins" and it's an odd rendering of a man leading a donkey and pointing forwards.  The lady on the donkey is obviously sorry to leave this "romantic" place.  Probably part of an "Italian Series".   It is marked G Crown R   Clew Warranted Staffordshire and measures 9.75" and is almost 1.5" deep.  would be in almost perfect condition but for all the breaks; no crazing, no chips, the lightest of cutlery marks.  Enjoy !!!!
