GEORGE HAMILTON IV.......  ‘ABILENE’   ...  RCA VICTOR DYNAGROOVE RECORDINGS MONO LPM-2778. Released in 1963. ‘NOT FOR SALE PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY’ stamped on the reverse of the cover.

A great country album ...sweet melodies and a few tear jerkers...plus the wonderful title track ‘Abilene’. It’s in pretty good condition considering it was released in 1963!

Please note that I always play check my records before listing in order to give a fair assessment of their condition. I also use the ‘Record Collector’ magazine’s grading system for reference.

Vinyl audio condition. G+/ VG   Plays through very well on both sides.Nice clear, bright sound throughout with no major problems. There is some surface noise in places and a few light ‘clicks’ or pops here and there.  Track 3) on side 2) for instance has a couple of light pops just at the start of the track but they’re not very noticeable.

Vinyl visual condition. G+  There are a few light marks and scuffs visible when looking at the record in ordinary daylight but nothing very obvious and there certainly aren’t any major ‘feelable’ scratches that affect the playing of the record. When however, the disc is ‘angled’ under a good strong light then numerous scuffs and hairline type marks are visible.....thus I’ve graded accordingly.

Album cover: VG   The hard card type cover is in very good condition. I will however attempt to describe any flaws as I perceive them. The front of the cover has a glossy finish and the reverse has a matt finish. Both front and back have faded somewhat and have picked up various dirt marks over the years. There are also a few light shallow surface marks on the front..but nothing major. On the reverse of the cover, in the top left hand corner there is a small sticker that reads ‘Johnny Russell Box 81 Eureka, California’ then there is the promotional stamp in red that reads ‘Not For Sale Promotional Use Only’ and finally another stamp mark ,this time in blue that reads ‘From the library of JOHNNY RUSSELL Number 161’ (See photo3). There is some shelf wear to the top and bottom edges and there is some scuffing to all four corners. The spine is a bit crinkled along it’s length and is scuffed at one end.The inner is just a plain white paper sleeve that’s a little creased.

Labels: VG+  Both labels are in very good condition with no pen marks or sticker residue. Not much sign of spindle traces around the centre hole.

I hope that my photographs have been useful.
