Adafruit STEMMA Soil Sensor, capacitive I2C moisture sensor for soil

Most inexpensive sensors for measuring soil moisture determine the conductivity between two ends. This works in the beginning, but the conductivity decreases continuously due to the oxidation of the contacts - even with gold-plated contacts. This means that the code would have to be recalibrated over and over again in order to compensate for the increasing resistance of the humidity measurements.

The Adafruit Soil Sensor, on the other hand, measures the moisture capacitively without exposing the plant to a current flow. The integrated capacitive touch sensor of the ATSAMD10 chip is used for this. The readings range from 200 for very dry to 2000 for very moist soil. In addition, the controller has an integrated temperature sensor that measures measurements with an accuracy of approx. ± 2˚C possible.

The sensor board can be controlled by any microcontroller via I2C and is suitable for operating voltages from 3 to 5 V.

Please note that only the sensor board is included in the scope of delivery. But we have the right one JST-JST cable and also Jack Grove Pipesthat you can use to connect to your microcontroller board.
