Who We AreWhen one of the RAF family needs a friend, they turn to us. That’s because we can be there on the doorstep, in person, to help sort out the problem and share the load. When times are tough, nothing beats friendly, face-to-face support from someone who really cares. A life of service in the RAF can include experiencing some distressing situations and moving around a lot. So, many of our veterans and serving personnel don’t have a close network of friends and family around them to help them through difficult times. Active service can lead not only to physical injury, but also to ongoing mental health issues. It’s our job to make sure nobody who has served in the RAF – or their immediate families – feels abandoned when they’re most in need. Injury, bereavement, illness, loneliness, financial difficulties – if things go wrong, our network of warm-hearted, practical and highly trained people flies into action. Our members, volunteers and employees work together to make sure everyone who needs us gets the one-to-one support they deserve. Working closely with grant-giving charities such as the RAF Benevolent Fund, we help source grants for those in financial hardship. But providing financial aid is just a small part of what we do. When you support the RAF Association, you’re helping us with many different kinds of important work. Our Aims and ValuesThe RAF Family and its importance in helping create an effective Air ForceFor Service personnel to be at their most effective, it is recognised that the Royal Air Force has to provide the necessary community support structure for their families. The development of a strong sense of community and feeling of wellbeing amongst all Service personnel and their families helps make our Air Force better by encouraging unity, and helping to ensure that the men and women who come into service want to stay. With such a feeling of community, forces personnel can focus on their work, knowing that their families can access the support they need, when they need it – whether it is while they are actively serving, or after they have served. Service charities and organisations such as the Royal Air Forces Association, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Royal Air Force Families Federation play a key role in this wider Royal Air Force community. This community is more commonly known as the Royal Air Force Family, and all the organisations work closely with the Royal Air Force to provide the necessary welfare and support to all who are part of it. The RAF Association is committed to supporting the RAF Family, whether currently serving, or former-serving, in a wide range of ways, delivering help and support where it is needed.
