302 / 351 Cleveland Thermostat - Correct 'OE' design (OE = Original Equipment)

 This unit is -Temp

180F ( 82C )

 **other temperatures available

- 174F ( 79C )

- 160F ( 71C )

- 192F ( 91C )

pls check for availability.

*** rule of thumb =

- run hotter for better economy/thermal efficiency

- run colder for more horsepower*****

N.b Ford design engineers elected for a 192 thermostat in most STD applications and a 180 in their performance applications.

Fits: XWGT, XY, XA, XB, XC, XD, XE Falcon / Fairmont / Fairlane / LTD / F100 / Bronco etc...

And.... ALL 302 / 351c / 351m / 400m engines with a brass restrictor / bypass plate fitted.

If you do not have a brass plate fitted to your Cleveland then i can supply one at an addition cost.

Finally, it's available to anyone & everyone at a very reasonable price

Do not be fooled or mislead by listings of other eBay sellers claiming they have a thermostat that will be correct for your Cleveland engine!

Look at my Images and compare it to their images. Any other type or design will not work as FORD intended.

Can you see the sprung loaded disc at the bottom? That round foot is designed to block the bypass passage (i.e. the hole in the centre of the brass ring) as the thermostat opens. (a so called Cleveland 'expert' in the USA sells a 'High-flow' unit, and seriously, its not the correct design! It does not have the means to block off the hole completely, plus its the wrong shape and diameter. It just looks as if it 'might' do the job. If the little bell his thermostat is not precisely centred, it will get caught up on the inner lip of the bypass plate and get stuck: keeping the thermostat open and you just wasted time and money on a bogus set up.)

MUST READ!!!! : The 351c needs a unique thermostat because of a 'By-pass plate' (brass ring) that sits just below the thermostat position. If this orifice is not partially blocked or fully blocked while the thermostat is open, hot water will continue to circulate around the engine instead of passing through the radiator. At the very least this will lead to temperature creep and eventually over-heating.

For decades Cleveland engines here and in the USA have been suffering from 'mysterious' over heating issues for decades. Predominantly misdiagnosed and blamed on: thin cylinder walls, bad water pumps, pulley diameters and a myriad of other time consuming, frustrating and expensive exercises that could have been solved by one little 'correct' thermostat.

Why has no one offered this in the market before now ??

Perhaps it's this simple: It seems too easy and too good to be true.... and no one knew what the correct thermostat was supposed to look like, not even so called 'experts'.  Most people wondered what that brass plate, under the thermostat was even for ????.

So if you want the correct thermostat for your Cleveland then this is the one.

Hi Drew. Just a note that I finally had a chance to install the thermostat. As I expected the one in there was the wrong one. Needless to say the one I got from you worked perfect and solved my 20+ year overheating on my 71 Torino. Thanks again for the info and for offering this.
