DESCRIPTION:
A simply amazing piece of mid-20th century Murano (Italy) vintage 'sommerso,' faceted and bubble/flake textured, hand-blown art glass, from the celebrated Italian Modernist glass artist Alessandro Mandruzzato. The tall, 12" in height, hand-blown glass vessel, was both initially hand-blown and then submitted to a repeated 'subversion' process or in Italian 'sommerso,' where the glass form would be dipped and submerged in divergent colored glass, creating layers of different episodes of color. To better view the interior tear-drop, cobalt blue form that appears suspended in a kind of frozen animation on the interior of the glass vase, the artist chose to cut and polish a transparent window in which to observe the results of the sommerso technique. Not only is this extraordinary amorphic, leaning, free-flowing, hand-blown art glass vase exciting due to its cobalt, mint green and clear glass color fluctuations but its exterior is flaked with mint green glass shards, that reflect light and subsequently sparkle and shimmer. Absolutely gorgeous, with incredibly active surfaces. Very fine. It would be difficult to ask for a piece of Italian Modernist art glass to possibly be any more exciting than this. An extraordinary work of Italian Murano art glass from the incredibly capable hands of the famous and widely celebrated Italian Modernist glass artist
Alessandro Mandruzzato. Heavenly. If God was an art student, he'd be studying glass-making under Alessandro Mandruzzato.

CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition. There are perhaps a few very slight 'touches' or anomalies in the exterior textured, flaked or bubbled exterior. One episode appears to be an errant flake or shard of opaque white glass and not a chip or flake break, that attached itself to the right of the faceted transparent, polished front window of the vase. The other tiny spot appears to be a very small scar, where perhaps a single glass flake or shard broke away from the surface of the glass at some previous juncture.
