An outstanding pitcher.

Circa 1880, this pitcher was created by Schulz & Fischer of San Francisco and is crafted from solid sterling silver. This large piece of high Victorian era silver features a band of classic Greek images. There are a number of nude mermaids, mermaid boys blowing seashell horns, horses (possibly hippocampus) or sea monsters, as well as smoking sacrificial tripods in front of Ancient Greek buildings. This pitcher is brimming with symbolism and Ancient Greek motifs.

The base of the pitcher is clearly hallmarked "S.F. CAL. STERLING" along with the Great Seal of California which was used as the makers mark for Schulz & Fischer. The pitcher measures an impressive 9 1/2 inches tall and weighs 692 grams - 22.25 troy ounces of solid sterling silver!

The pitcher does show some wear commensurate with age such as scratches, surface dings, and general wear from polishing. Otherwise this is a rare opportunity to own a simply fabulous piece of silver!
