Infantry; Killed Jackson, Keeper of Marshall House in Alexandria, VA.) - Occupation of Arlington Heights and Alexandria, Va. Colonel Ellsworth enters an Alexandria hotel, the Marshall House, to remove a Confederate flag flying from its roof. As he returns down the stairs he is shot and killed by the proprietor, named Jackson, who is himself shot and bayoneted by Private Brownell of Company A.
