QUESTION = I am looking for a cable with a flat “wafer”-shape head for the stem shifters on a 1970’s model Schwinn Varsity.

Is that what this is .... or is it a “barrel” style cable end ?

Take a look at photo numbers 2 thru 12 from this listing and you will see the SCHWINN "TWIN-STICK" shiftlevers that were in common use by SCHWINN in the 60's and 70's ....these particular shiftlevers ONLY used the cable that is available from this listing..... if you happen to have a 5-speed bicycle that uses just a 'single' shiftlever, and it looks like photo numbers 2 thru 12, then this cable will work for you as well.
