COLLECTORS: We're proud to offer you this gorgeous, old Murano Fratelli Toso millefiori toothpick holder/mini-vase, with amazingly complex canes. A beautiful, c.1920s, small millefiori piece—with the OLD SATIN finish—from our personal collection. It is visually brilliant! Tremendous amount of activity in a small package! Pontil/base is made ground to flat and shows the expected shelf-wear of it's age (~pre-1930). This treasure would make an excellent addition to an art glass or toothpick holder collection, or a thoughtful gift for a special person!

FULL CONDITION REPORT: We thoroughly inspected this piece and found that no cracks, chips, nicks, scuffs, flea bites, flakes, hairlines, significant scratches (located other than weight-bearing base), repairs, stains, residue, odors, evidence of grinding or signs of restoration could be seen or felt. Any natural indentations, bubbles, tool marks, carbon/ash deposits, and/or any other natural textural features are all original and normal for hand blown glass. Wear to base is normal and consistent with advanced age. Please review all high resolution photos, at full size, in forming your own opinions.

🤥 FAKE Murano Glass? WATCH OUT! 🧐
 

INVEST IN THE REAL THING: All genuine Murano art glass is made ONLY on the small island group of MURANO, in Venice Bay, Italy. The enclave's closely guarded formulas, techniques and traditions date back to the thirteenth century—1292. That, and an unparalleled reputation for quality and value helps give genuine Murano glass its exclusivity, collectibility and resultant appreciation factor. So, investing in authentic Murano glass enriches your collection, and—if liquidated—it can pay benefits.
Establishing authenticity is of paramount importance, because there have been abuses of the trademark name “Murano”. Before 1980, most Murano glass was only identified with impermanent paper/foil labels. So the name was easily co-opted by a variety of outside glass makers, some with genuine talent , but mostly those trying to defraud the public. Post-1980 genuine Murano is much more carefully labeled and/or signed. Glass makers with famous Italian names, working in other countries, having family ancestors who were Murano masters, still don't make the authentic 'Murano' glass that carries that genuine value.
WATCH OUT FOR THESE: The most egregious Murano glass fraud is carried out by Chinese manufacturers, cranking out crude, cheap fakes and fraudulently labeling them "Murano", as to pass them off as the valuable, genuine article. Please, be aware that many fakes have counterfeit Murano labels and may even say, 'Made in Italy'.
Fake Brands: "Murano Cristalleria Ann Primrose”, "Murano Minchella Collection", "Murano Stile d'Art", "VEISES-MURANO”, or "Murano Glassware" are easily recognized as some of the more common knock-off brands. There also are very common labels reading, “Vetro Eseguito Secondo La Tecnica Dei Maestri Di Murano” (Italian words meaning only: “Glass made according to the techniques of the masters of Murano”). That label misleads to imply that they are made in Murano, which they ARE NOT. These attempts are blatantly fraudulent, injurious to consumers and highly illegal; but the scale of their fraud overwhelms most country's customs enforcement agencies, including that of the United States and Italy, itself. These manufacturers, importers, and retailers are CHEATING YOU! Don’t let it happen.

PROTECT YOURSELF: Try to buy from a reputable, knowledgeable dealer, or do your homework and research how to hopefully tell the difference! It takes examining and studying hundreds of examples to know for sure, but here is a quick clue. Thumbnail advice: The fakes are usually crude, inferior work, that when labeled almost always say, "Murano" and sometimes even say, "Made in Italy". Murano work is always very high quality with very few bubbles, unless intentional! Fakes seldom have metallic inclusions (flakes/dust, a.k.a.  aventurine) and when they do it is never real gold.
