Andre Agassi won his lone French Open championship in this match from 1999. Agassi had lost in the French final in 1990 and 1991. This Grand Slam singles title was Andre's first since his Australian Open title in 1995. 4 long years. This victory completed the career Grand Slam for Andre. At the time, no one had accomplished this since Rod Laver in the 60s. This also completed the career Golden Slam (all 4 GS titles plus Olympic singles gold) for Andre. He was the first player to accomplish this. Andre started out flat and looked to be in deep trouble at 2 sets down. But, he succeeded in improving his play and calming the butterflies to claim this title. Andre would appear in the next three Grand Slam finals, winning two. He broke Sampras' 6 year run as the world's number 1 player and finished number 1 for 1999. it's the only time he achieved year end world number 1.
