This is a generic refill kit only and is therefore much friendlier to the environment. The Mercedes-Benz OEM Glass bottle is very durable and can be refilled an infinite number of times. Used & empty OEM glass bottles can be bought on the Internet for about £55 - £60 or new, from Mercedes-Benz direct for £75 (see the gallery photos).

The Air-Balance (magnetic) fragrance glass bottle is a complex unit. Mercedes-Benz have deliberately made it not too easy for us to refill it. Instead, the Mercedes-Benz dealer will sell us a whole new Air-Balance fragrance glass bottle. This is not very kind to the environment and recycling is so much more appropriate & cost effective here.

The (OEM) UK dealer price is about £95 or the current price (June 2024) on Amazon is £125.97 (!) + postage (with a new Air-Balance glass bottle and 15 ml of perfume/ fragrance). In the USA the price is about US$ 130; in Europe about €109,90 & in Sweden €121.00

The 'Maybach' fragrance currently retails at £130.00 from the main M-B dealers.

I have been refilling my own Air-Balance glass bottles about every 450 hours / 3 - 6 months or so for the last 8 years with very positive results, re-using the existing Mercedes-Benz Air-Balance fragrance glass bottle (with settings in Climate Control set at Level 2 =Medium). Mercedes-Benz specify replacing the fragrance glass bottle every 1,500 hours or 12 months (based on the lowest-level Setting No. 1 in your Climate Control [1 = Low; 2 = Medium & 3 = High]). At Level 2 that would = 6 months and at Level 3 about 3 to 4 months.

I have now sold over 1,000 refill kits in the past 8 years with 100% customer satisfaction. These make a very affordable alternative the the limited and very expensive Mercedes-Benz range of fragrances.

Three years ago year, Mercedes-Benz confirmed (please check the photo in my listing & Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forum website) with owners that non-OEM oil-based fragrance refills do not invalidate the owner's warranty. Have a look at the Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forum website for comments (especially in the USA) about this and the very high cost of replacing the OEM Air-Balance fragrance glass bottles.

These are high-quality oil-based fragrances as recommended by Mercedes-Benz. Water-based or alcohol-based fragrances (e.g. after-shave or ladies perfumes) must not be used as these will not last very long and will likely damage the Air-Control Unit's valve and the car's A/C system.

Now you don't have to just let the climate-control system run out of fragrance - you can easily and affordably refill the Air-Balance system once or twice a year (NB: this is also not included in the fixed price cost of the routine Mercedes-Benz dealer servicing schedule and as such, is an extra cost-option).

Some Mercedes-Benz owners have reported on the “MB Owners Forum” that they can open the Air-Control fragrance glass bottle by simply unscrewing the Top-Cap, albeit the cap is put on very tightly at the factory. In my experience over the past eight years, the Top-Cap is a clip-on fit and not a screw-on fit. You risk snapping the three hidden plastic retaining clips by trying to unscrew it, so please, do take care.

By following the simple but detailed & illustrated fitting instructions there is just some simple dismantling of the four basic components. The time taken is just about 10 -15 minutes of your time (see photo).

Originally, I spent some time working out how to carefully open and re-use the Air-Balance glass bottle (not wanting to break the glass bottle, the mounting clips or the plastic Fragrance Control Unit's components). The glass bottle has a magnetic base which is "sensed" by the car's Climate Control system (COMAND). If the full or even empty Air-Balance glass bottle is not in place on start-up, then you will get an error message. Refilling the fragrance using your existing OEM Air-Balance glass bottle does not induce any error messages.

Initial Mercedes-Benz (OEM) Air-Balance Fragrances are: "Daybreak Mood" fragrance; "Nightlife Mood" fragrance; "Forest Moods" “Freeside Mood" fragrance; “Sports Mood" fragrance; “Downtown Mood" fragrance; “Pacific Mood" fragrance; "Nightlife Mood;. New Mercedes-Benz fragrances are promised for 2024/ 2025 and also for the AMG models (currently "AMG #63" fragrance) and Maybach models (currently "AgarWood" & "Maybach" fragrances).

I provide detailed & illustrated fitting instructions on how to safely refill your existing Mercedes-Benz Air-Balance glass bottle. These are in the form of a printed Word document. The level of fragrance is adjustable via your COMAND Climate Control Screen (Setting 1 = Low; 2 = Medium & 3 = High).

The Mercedes-Benz OEM glass Flaçon contains only15 ml - so I recommend you do not overfill the Air-Balance glass bottle

(Mercedes-Benz recommended level is that the Air-Balance glass bottle is only filled to the 1/4 full level).

Just use the new refill bottle to top-up every 3 to 6 months or so.
