Roman Imperial, Faustina Junior, sestertius, 176 AD or later, Rome, Sear 5227, R.I.C. 1702, 30-32 mm, 20 gms. This is an issue of Marcus Aurelius in honor or his diefied wife, 175 AD. The obverse legend shows "DIVA FAVSTINA PIA ". The draped bust of Faustina to the right is shown. The reverse shows the legend "CONSECRATIO S C ". Shown is Faustina holding a sceptre, and with a veil billowing out around her head and shoulders. She is seated on back of a peacock, soaring heavenward to the right. The piece is mostly dark tan to light brown in color on both sides. Nice detailed portrait of Faustina with hair and facial features strong, and also good detail in her drapery.
