E Pluribus Unum
Stunning Antique 19th Century silk embroidery from the estate of a retired Naval Commander.
The
thread work is incredible and the bald eagle is simply stunning. Check
out the glass eye! This is a museum quality piece of historical
Americana.
This family heirloom is undated
and unsigned but we believe it is from the tail end of the 19th Century.
Craftsmanship suggests this may have been a presentation piece for a
US Navy Officer. There are some other similar examples that appear to
have been made in Japan to be sold to American sailors at oriental ports
during the Meiji period. It makes sense given the form of the eagle which looks very dragon like.
Professionally and expertly framed under glass this piece measures 27" x 27"
