General Description

The characteristic spectrum of these lamps is an approximation of very strong sunlight, with an enhanced ultraviolet component. The energy radiated in the UVB band is approximately 10%.  These lamps are designed to promote the health of certain reptiles, chameleons, lizards, geckos, tortoises, and snakes, but may have other uses as well.  They are not approved for the treatment of psoriasis, though they are effective.

Additional Remarks

1. Mishandling of these lamps can result in risks to health and safety. You should avoid prolonged exposure of your person to to the direct rays emitted by these lamps. You should wear UV protective glasses to protect your eyes from damage if you look at the light from these lamps directly. In addition the lamps contain mercury, which can present a personal and environmental risk, should the lamp be broken. Disposal of the lamp after its useful lifetime may be subject to local regulations.

2. The performance of lamps of this type will decline with use. If the lamp is used substantially all day long it should be replaced after about one year. You may not perceive any change in its function, but the proportion of UV  energy in the emitted light becomes less with time.

3. The lamp should normally be situated from 30 cm to 50 cm (12 inches to 20 inches)  from the reptiles.

4. There should be no intervening material between the lamps and the reptile.

5. The lamps should not be relied upon to supply very much heating.

6. When you buy a box of 25 lamps, I will not have tested each one.
