GRADING GUIDELINES
All records are visually inspected under strong light to give condition rating. Records with hairline marks are play-tested to confirm audio condition. Please read the "Item Condition Description" thoroughly and check with me if you have any questions.
We use the following guidelines to grade the conditions of records (vinyls, shellac) we offer for sale.
MINT (M)
Absolutely
perfect in every way – possibly never been played and even still sealed.
NEAR MINT (NM or M-)
The record has no obvious signs of wear and which will play
perfectly, with no imperfections during playback. The sleeve has no more than
minor defects (signs of slight handling) but has no creases, folds, seam
splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects. The same applies to
inner sleeves and inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.
VERY GOOD
PLUS (VG+)
The record shows some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by
a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects are cosmetic and not
affecting playback. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have
slight scuffs or light scratches that do not affect listening experiences. The
label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely
noticeable. Spindle marks may be present. Inner sleeves will have some slight
wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split and slightly/moderately
toned. The sleeve has slight signs of wear (scuffs/creases/bumped & rubbed
corners/edges), and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut
corner.
VERY GOOD
(VG)
Defects found in a VG+ are more pronounced. Surface noise is evident
upon playing but does not overpower the music. Groove wear is noticeable, as
with light scratches that are deep enough to feel with a fingernail. Labels may
be marred by inscription or have stickers (or their residue) attached. The same
is true of sleeves, inner sleeves, and inserts.
Good (G)
Record in Good condition can be played through without skipping. But it
will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. The sleeve
has seam splits (at the top, bottom or on the spine), stickers (or residues), inscriptions,
ring wear, or other defects. While the record is playable without skipping,
surface noise and "ticks" are noticeable during playback.
FAIR (F)
The record has noticeable spindle wear, scratches, is warped, and skips
during playback. The sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and
heavily marred by wear and writing. Inner sleeves are fully split and crinkled.
