Description

Vintage 1930s Completed Needlepoint Embroidery by ALICE BLOCKIE Triple Amputee. In good condition. Frame shows some wear - see pics. Newspaper clippings are all copies.  Frame measures 19 1/4" x 15 1/4".

This is an amazing collection!  This lovely needlepoint was done by a woman who lost both legs and one arm as a young child in an accident in 1904. I found articles from The Hammond Times Newspaper of Hammond, Indiana, stating that she could type 60 words per minute and take shorthand at the rate of 80 to 110 words per minute in addition to her skills in tapestry and neeplepoint.
In the clipping dated May 16, 1939, there is a wonderful photo showing Alice. Right next to her on the table is a framed needlepoint very close in design to this one!
