This listing is for a rare offering of Devonian microconcentrate rich in vertebrate remains including sharks, conodonts and fish and is from the Maple Mill formation of Iowa.

Each sample had to be dissolved using acetic acid from the limestone matrix. 100 kilos of rock was reduced to only a small jam jar of material weighing less than 100g, yet it is extremely rich in vertebrate remains.

The images show a typical sample spread out in a 2x2 inch plastic sorting tray. The auction comes with identification card like those  shown so you can identify many of the specimens found. We cannot guarantee what species will be in any sample, but every sample contains abundant vertebrate remains including teeth and shark skin scales. Complete shark teeth are rare so please do not bid if you expecting many shark teeth in each sample. Shark skin scales are, however, common.

A microscope is essential to pick this material and a magnification of around 20x is optimum. Anyone with experience in picking microfossils will love this material as it is unlike any other.
