"Industar" is the general name for anastigmat lenses that have been produced in the USSR since the early 1930s in a variety of designs and with various optical parameters. A common feature of all Industars was a Tessar-type optical circuitry consisting of four lenses, two of which were glued. Most of the lenses of this type belong to the normal group and were used as standard lenses in most Soviet cameras, as well as in magnifiers, movie cameras, aerial cameras and other equipment.

The name is derived from the root of the word “industry”, since lenses appeared in the first five-year period of the industrialization era.

Enlightened medium-aperture lens, probably the most popular of the Industar series. The calculation was performed by well-known Soviet optics academician G. Slyusarev and V. Sokolova in accordance with the trends in the use of the latest varieties of optical glass with rare-earth elements. In both positive lenses, the STK-6 super-heavy lanthanum crown was used. Such glass has a high refractive index, making it possible to obtain the same optical power with less curvature of the surfaces and, as a consequence, reduced aberrations.

It was produced in different frames for different types of small format cameras. On the frames of various versions, the focal length could be designated as 50, 52, 53 and 55 mm, although its exact value is 52.42 mm
"Industar-61" is a standard lens of the FED-2, FED-3, and FED-4 rangefinder cameras.

The four-lens Industar-61 has almost the same resolution as the six-lens Helios-81. It was used as a regular for the "FED" and replaceable for the "Zenith". The designation “D” means execution for rangefinder cameras, and “Z” for SLR cameras.
