Into the Valley by John Hersey - A skirmish of the Marines.  Blood and Sweat, But no Tears.  On the 8th of October, 1942, John Hersey, TIME Life correspondent, went down into the valley with Captain Charles Rigaud of the United States Marines and his heavy machine gun company.  A small skirmish took place there.  The valley was on Guadalcanal.  This book recaptures the feelings of Rigaud, his men and Hersey as they went down into that jungle valley.
