DESCRIPTION:
A rare pre-WWII, early 20th century American folk art, vintage, hand carved and hand painted, stationary head, black and white 'Common Hooded Merganser Drake' sporting duck decoy, fashioned from white cedar, with a white painted underside of the decoy's flat baseplate. It remains absolutely, 100% untouched and as it was when it and a number of other early, hand carved and hand painted wooden sporting duck decoys were removed from the Worcester, Massachusetts home. It was fashioned in two parts, with the head and body being carved separately and then with the head attached at the base of the neck to the body. The decoy boasts two intact, semi-transparent, amber glass eyes. The hand painted black and white body, insinuates the bi-color, black and white feathers on the lower body of the Common Hooded Merganser Drake duck, with its hallmark, characteristic laid down tuft of feathers. located at the back of its head, lending it, its distinctive form. All original paint and surfaces. A very scarce, American vintage, hand carved and hand painted wooden sporting duck decoy and a scarce Common Hooded Merganser Drake decoy. Very handsome. Very fine.

CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
