Here we have a most attractive antique clear glass Prussian shape decanter with cut decoration and dating from c 1840.

An almost identical shaped decanter is illustrated in the book, The Decanter Ancient to Modern by glass expert Andy McConnell - page 233 - which he dates to 1840. The decanter stands 13 1/2 inches or 34 cm high and is a maximum of 5 1/2 inches wide. The decanter has cut diamond shapes with vertical cuts through the centres and thumb cuts above. There are panel cuts to the shoulder and two thin rings around the neck surmounted by thumb cuts.

The spire has an air tear and long cuts up to the point which is chipped at one side. The stopper is a good, tight fit. The base is star cut and has the amount of wear you would expect to see with an antique item of glassware for the table. It has the distinctive slightly grey hue of antique glass and is a heavy item at 1290g. Would make a very attractive addition to any drinks cabinet or dining table and usable as well as decorative. Please see my other items of antique glassware including more decanters.
