Striking old walking stick (cane) or classroom pointer. Most likely this was a light walking stick (only 2 ounces but fairly strong) and may have had a metal tip on ground end at one time, but it was lost to history long ago.  Even though this is sturdy, it seems some of these old canes were less for use as a true "needed" walking cane and perhaps more of a fashion statement or use as a pointer or other.  Most modern canes are 1/2"-1" in diameter and this is smaller.  We found several of these old Boxer or English Bulldog head walking sticks or canes dated from the mid to late 1800's.  We only found one however that appeared to be by the same maker as ours in over 25 of eBay sales.  This is just over 35" in length and the stick part is bamboo and the head a shaped metal of some type. Not sure if it is brass or other, as it has dark patina covering it from age.  In any case the piece looks outstanding. We found ones somewhat similar had sold from $100 to $300+ over the years on eBay.  The ones most similar to this were dated to late 1800's and that seems to fit patina & general look of item.  Some identified these walking sticks as carnival souvenir canes, but those were mostly the ceramic head canes made from 1900-1930 or so.  We feel this item predates those by several decades and are pricing at what we feel is appropriate for the item.

Please Read: See our Feedback & Buy with confidence.  We ship with extreme care and all items are fully insured!  We often take from 30-90 minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected.  We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only one time in over 2,000 US shipped sales).  For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service and we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers.  The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers).  So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns.  Sales tax is charged according to your state or country's regulations.  Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through.  We do this often.

Let us know if you want signature confirmation your item if it is above $100, we will not require it otherwise unless shipping service requires.  FedEx & Others are beginning to require signature on items above $500-$700.  Also, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
