Astrakhan cuirassier regiment, formed in 1811. Set came from 14 different cavalry units of the Russian army.
Especially notable cuirassiers regiment in the battle for Semenovskiy ravine (one of the most important episodes of the battle of Borodino). From this battle the Russian cuirassiers (team Borozdina, which included the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment) emerged victorious and reversed the best heavy cavalry in Europe of those times: the French and Saxon cuirassiers, called the "iron horsemen". But the price of this victory was very great, from 597 Astrakhan cuirassiers regiment survived only 95.
