DESCRIPTION: A rare find and most exquisite frock!  With the original "Party Lines" label, this would be one earliest dresses of the queen of California high end fashion, Emma Domb, late 30s or early 40s.  Even more unique is the fact that the dress is part of a wedding ensemble.  See the actual wedding dress and veil in another of my auctions. 

Emma Domb was a California dressmaking company that was active from 1939 through the 70s. Domb Manufacturing Company was owned by Emma Domb and Lorraine Domb Steinberg. They specialized in wedding, party and prom dresses, and were also known for fancy date ensembles. They were headquartered in San Francisco.

The dress is incredibly well tailored and fashioned of two layers of a blue wider mesh net and an underlayer of shimmery, swishy blue taffeta.  The top layer of the net is open at the front center.  There are boxy, stiff hip panniers to give that exaggerated confection frock effect of the Marie Antoinette era.  The bodice is tight fitted.  A layer of sheer organdy at the top creates an illusion neckline.  A dropped wide collar of the same material is finished with large satin daisy like flowers with cut out centers; these repeat on either side of the mesh net opening at the front center of the skirt.  Even the tailoring for the side metal zipper in incredible.  Loosely worn gauntlet fingerless gloves and a matching gathered mesh net starburst hat with cloth flowers complete the ensemble.  I have a few more photos if you would like to see them.  Shown on size 4, 6 ft. tall mannequin.  Should fit a standard size 12-14 or medium.
