Following closely on the heels of the incredibly popular FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND (and the less popular, but equally significant science fiction movie magazine SPACEMEN, as well as the Western TV and Western movies magazine FAMOUS WESTERNS OF FILMLAND, later renamed WILDEST WESTERNS), publisher James Warren and contributing editor Forrest J. Ackerman decided that the fan world was ready for a NEW magazine, entirely devoted to exciting movies, serials and television shows -- and thus created SCREEN THRILLS ILLUSTRATED.  At the time of the early 1960s, this was the ONLY newsstand magazine of its kind, and was the precursor for today's FILMFAX magazine.  STI was devoted to 1930s/1940s science fiction, mystery and adventure serials, as well as Westerns, stunt performers, jungle epics, super-heroes, military films, television action series, and so on -- any movie or television subject that lent itself to high action and teeth-grinding entertainment.  Alas, it only lasted 10 issues -- but, back in the early to mid-1960s, I read and re-read all those issues multiple times; and they opened up doors for me into movie and TV worlds of which I was previously unaware.  Check out the contents of this issue:
