CALYPSO/NIKKOR II UNDER WATER CAMERA CIRCA 1969

Rare/vintage underwater camera, which has been used but is still in very good condition.

I inherited this camera when my Dad passed away in 2006 and it has been safely stored since then.

My Dad was a keen scuba diver and used this camera on several occasions.  He dived locally around  Hampshire and Dorset as well as the Isles of Scilly. He was fastidious when it came to taking care of equipment so I am certain this camera has been well looked after. I don't know when he last had it serviced and I haven't had it done in the time it has been in my care.

Whilst I'm reluctant to sell, I don't use the camera or have it on show. It is stored away and gets looked at everytime we move (not that often) or when I happen to be having a purge of stored items! It seems such a shame to keep it stored away.

The sale also includes:

Federal 3000 computerized flash

Sekonic EV Auto-Lumi with black leather case.

It doesn't come with a case but I can include the pretty make-up / wash bag that I inherited it with 😂

Background:

The Nikonos II was the successor to the original Calypso underwater camera. The Nikonos series was originally designed by La Spirotechnique in France in 1960, and sold as the Calypso-Phot. The Calypso was conceived by Jacques Cousteau. The Nikonos series was hugely popular and remained in production until 2001.

The Calypso/Nikkor II was sold in Europe and made from 1968-1975.

The lens is a Nikkor 35mm f/2.5 with zone focusing and a depth of field scale. Focus - 2.75 to Infinity. Speeds B, 1/30 - 1/500 seconds.

It can be used above and below water.

A reviw by Mike Eckman (Set 2020) states, "...Whether you are a collector, a user, or into underwater or above water photography, the Calypso/Nikkor is a worthy addition to have. It's got a cool history, is a well built and innovative camera that's fun to use, offers a unique experience and produces excellent images. Highly recommended!"
