19th Century Round, Hand Woven Split Oak Gathering Basket with Bent Wood Handle.

A beautiful large American woven splint stave basket from the 19th century, with a bent wood carved handle. This basket has been in my family for 3 generations. The basket comes from the Battle Creek, Michigan area. The material the basket is made out of is believed to be Oak.

The basket does lean a little in one direction, but if you were as old as this basket you would lean a little too. There is one splint on the bottom that is broken, (see picture). This broken splint does not affect the function or look of the basket. The basket measures approximately 16” across and 15” from the bottom of basket to the top of the handle. The basket has been well taken care of, and is in great condition for it's age.

Rustic yet elegant, very good quality, made with exceptional craftsmanship, with its rustic presence and nice proportions, this antique American basket will be a great addition to any room or collection and still useful too.
