Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very unique General Electric 97U20 model controlled reluctance microphone based on the more common Shure Brothers 510C model "Hercules". This 97U20 comes with an original short cable and period Electro Voice 423A desk stand in which to display.

Pic # 2 is from an old Shure catalog showing this very model mic and it's basic characteristics.

It should be noted right away that this microphone had a longer 7 foot cable but the cable was quite damaged in several spots so I shortened it and applied a period  male Cannon XLR end connector. The microphone also does not work as the original element was missing when I got it. This mic should be used only for display, prop or modification purposes.

This General Electric 97U20 model came with it's own distinct blue grey / paint scheme and General Electric badge and insignia. Otherwise the all metal body was identical to the Shure model sold. The painted body on this mic shows typical wear. Very tiny paint chips and scratches.

This little mic has a bit of weight to it being an all metal construction. The original burgundy colored cloth screen has zero rips, odors or discoloration. It's appx 4 inches tall (with the lower adapter attached) X 2 1/2 inches wide. The G.E badge and logo are still present and show just lite wear. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. This mic was designed to sit on it's own or to be mounted to a taller desk or floor stand. This example does have the adapter attached to the bottom of the mic so it will fit any stand you have though the stand shown is included.

The mic has a short cable that's just 6 inches in length. It's still soft and pliable. Again, comes with the vintage male Cannon XLR end connector that shows very lite wear and is properly wired if you ever put a working element inside the mic.

The 97U20 is an easy 7 on  a scale of 1 - 10. This will make a great display piece for any mic collection.

The stand is a period 1950's era Electro Voice 423A model with the satin chrome finish aluminum base and 6 inch riser. The 423A makes for a very stable platform and compliments the mic nicely as they have the same overall vibe and the stand is cosmetically the same as the mic.

This stand has typical lite wear in the form of scuff marks, lite scratches and tiny pitting on some of the surface. The 6 inch riser has typical lite wear. The base has the 3 original rubber pads as well to keep the base from scratching any surface it may rest on. The mic with stand is appx 11 inches tall X 5 inches wide.

             And as always...
