Rare Vintage 1975 The Hole in the Fence Graphic Book by Frank Shaw, Catherine Plaskacz, Marc F. Gelinas, David Sutherland (Illustrator). A Non-medical Use of Drugs Directorate. This was an illustrated book published and put out by Health and Welfare Canada to the schools across Canada in the mid 1970's to teach and inform the kids about the dangers of recreational hallucinogenic drugs and drug use. Many kids (and even the teachers) did not comprehend the true concept of the book and its lessons opting more to believe that in a mythical garden, various vegetables learn how to live together and make wise choices. There were only 2 editions ever published, one in 1975 and one in 1978. Both are equally rare. This is the first 1975 edition. It was also published in French under the title: Mes amis, mon jardin. This book also came with a teacher's guide but I do not have that one. Finding the 2 together, you would need to get Indiana Jones out of retirement. This book alone was already hard enough if not yet near impossible to find. Contains 132 pages of wild wacky hallucinogenic art work right out of the 60's and Woodstock. David Sutherland, the illustrator is famous for the early Dungeons and Dragons art work and his influence and style can easily be seen in the vegetable characters throughout this book from the first to the last page. The book is in very good condition with clear signs of handling wear but no damages. The spine shows wear but it is intact and there are no tears, rips or markings on the pages. This book is a definite must for any serious collectors.
