Extremely scarce  and RARE!
Produced in 1946 by the Hudson’s Bay Company based on the “then current” decimal monetary system rather than the traditional “Made Beaver” token trade system used in fur trading.

Originally issued in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 cents to facilitate trade at eastern trading posts ONLY, so these are much rarer than the common ‘to use made beaver” tokens HBC produced.  One square token was issued in this period, it was denominated in 1 fox skin.

Secondary to trading, these were meant for teaching the local Inuit how a decimal monetary system works.

With beaver trading on the decline and fox being much more relevant to the Arctic, trappers would brought furs to the post, traded them for square 1 fox tokens, which later were exchanged for the round tokens.

Because these round tokens had a dollar value the trapper could then purchase, instead of trading to obtain supplies from the post purveyor. These are  the last known fur trade tokens issued by Hudson's Bay Company.

Round tokens were made of aluminum and in five denominations: 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 cents. They measure, respectively; 20 mm, 26 mm, 32mm, 39mm, and 46 mm. The sixth square Arctic fox token, was stamped with the number 1 measuring 46 mm. All tokens have a reverse that is blank.
They tokens were never meant to leave the posts or to be used later and were discontinued in 1962. For the above reasons, it is extremely scarce LUCKY and rare to find these, ESPECIALLY BROKEN OUT OF A SET.

Your purchase today is for the rarest of these, the 100, due to the fact it was the largest and only issued to large volume arctic fox traders, of which there were few as compared to the common low volume trader.
