"Lady with a Harp: Eliza Ridgely," the
painting reproduced on the slipcase, is
by Thomas Sully (1783-1872). Born in
England but raised in the U.S., Sully
studied with Gilbert Stuart in Boston.
During a stay in England he was influ-
enced by the work of Benjamin West and
Thomas Lawrence. The self-composed,
poised subject of "Lady with a Harp"
was all of 15 when she posed for Sully.
