In Europe, it brought
crowds to their feet.
In America, it will bring the
competition to its knees.
Honda introduces a motorcycle that
needs little introduction.
The long-awaited CB900F.
In Europe, dedicated road riders
already know the thrill of owning this
motorcycle. A bike that so harmoniously
integrates rider and machine.
A bike that can slalom through
twisting Alpine roads or soar down the
Autobahn.
A bike that, after crossing the
mountains and valleys of Europe, is finally
crossing the Atlantic. Complete with new
features and refinements to make it better
than ever.
The Power.
The CB900F is powered by one
of the most advanced engines in the
industry. A race-bred 902 cc DOHC four-
30-way adjustable
shocks icilli
remote reservoirs.
stroke four-cylinder powerhouse.
Developed and tested by Honda’s RCB
factory’ team on the European endurance
road racing circuit.
It’s strong. So there’s lots of power
out of the comers and down the straights.
It’s smooth. Double overhead
camshafts and four valve Pentroof" com-
bustion chambers allow for more overall
port area, centralized spark plugs and
lighter individual valve weights.
The result is freer breathing, quicker burn -
ing and improved performance at higher
rprn’s. Maintenance is easier too, because
the camshaft doesn’t have to be removed
for valve adjustment and two valves can
be checked or adjusted at the same time.
Carburetion comes from four
32 mm constant velocity carbs with an
accelerator pump. So there’s smoother,
crisper throttle response.
The Handling.
If all roads were designed in a
straight line, designing a bike to handle
them would be easy. Unfortunately, this
isn’t the case.
A complete road bike is
more than just straight ahead
speed. Handling is essen-
tial and is achieved by the
orchestration of power, sus-
pension and frame so they
work with each other.
The Honda CB900F
is such a bike.
A double cradle
frame with tapered roller
steering head bearings,
for instance. Strong,
slim, light and equip-
ped with rubber engine
mounts to help damp
vibration.
In the front, 39 mm
air assisted forks with dual Syntallic"
bushings. And a single inlet filler with
air pressure equalizer makes them
easier to adjust. By varying pressure,
the ride can be made stiffer or
softer to accommodate different
riding and load conditions.
In the rear, Honda’s exclu-
sive 30-way adjustable VHD"
shock absorbers. With remote
reservoirs to help keep the
shocks cool and reduce fading.
Combine these frame and suspen-
sion features with reverse ComStar"
wheels, a needle bearing swing arm pivot,
V-rated high speed tubeless tires, lightened
triple disc brakes with dual piston calipers
and a very comfortable riding
position and you have /
a motorcycle that
runs circles around the competition.
The Reliability.
The World Endurance Road Race
Championship. A test of man and machine
so grueling that winning
just once is considered a
great feat.
Honda won the
title five years in a row.
On a bike powered by an
engine which is the basis
for the CB900F. A fitting
testimony to the engine's
endurance and perfor-
mance.
And a chance
for Honda’s RCB
factory team to test
Race-bred 902 ccDOHC
four-stroke four-cylinder engine.
and refine many of the state-of-
the-art features found on the CB900F.
The CB900F also has many features
which make daily riding easier and main-
tenance less frequent.
Transistorized pointless ignition,
for example. No points. No condensers.
No maintenance.
Or the oil cooler with a trick front
fender to direct the air stream into it
It helps keep oil temperatures lower
and more constant so there’s less chance
of oil breakdown. Less chance of
getting stuck somewhere just outside
of nowhere.
The Honda CB900F. You've heard
of its European performance. You know
of its mystique. And you’ve waited most
of your life for a bike like this to come
along.
Now what are you waiting for?
