DESCRIPTION: From the back cover: "Nothing could seem more civilized, more orderly and sedate than a weekend at one of Great Britain's country estates. Yet these staid, conservative houses play host to a wider variety of murders than do the mean streets of America's darkest cities. What with cyanide in the teapot, curare in the gorse, a dagger in the library desk, a mastiff prowling the grounds, and blunt instrumentsof every description throughout the house, the temptation to do away with a doddering aunt or a stodgy uncle -- wealthy, of course -- can prove deliciously irresistible. Anthologist Thomas Godfrey here offers short works by the finest authors in the English Country House tradition, including Agatha Christie, P.D. James, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, P.G. Wodehouse, Ruth Rendell, John Dickson Carr, and Dorothy L. Sayers. Fine company indeed if rainy weather spoils the day's shooting (of grouse, of course)."

A delightful collection of stories in the murderous vein. Reading copy.

CONDITION: Covers slightly shelf-worn, crease on lower front right corner, corners bumped. Spine cracked and slightly rolled but sound. Text block age toned but appears unmarked, apart from a small exterior stain (under a half-inch) on the outside edge around pp. 316-320. Front hinge cracked but solid. A decent reading copy.

TERMS & ABBREVIATIONS IN OUR LISTINGS: For your convenience, here is a quick list of terms and abbreviations that I commonly use in listings:

IBC: Inside Back Cover

IBEP: Inside Back End Paper

IFC: Inside Front Cover

IFEP: Inside Front End Paper

Text-Block: The body of the book contained between the covers.

NOTES ON EDITIONS: I use a number of resources to attempt to determine the edition of the book that I am listing. My most frequently referenced resource is Zempel and Verkler's "First Editions: A Guide to Identification," although I sometimes use other internet sources and make comparisons with listings I find on various internet sites. Errors, if any, remain my own.

ON "MAKING AN OFFER" THROUGH eBay: Many of these items have automatic levels at which offers will be accepted which we have pre-set through eBay. Making an offer within the pre-determined range will result in your offer being immediately accepted. A few items also have levels below which offers will be declined. ALL offers are reviewed, and reasonable offers are always considered (although it being my business, I am the one who defines "reasonable"). If you have a question about making an offer on an item, do drop me a line.

We strive to be extremely careful and diligent in describing our listings, but if you receive a book and don't feel that it's quite what you ordered, please contact us through the "Contact Seller" link to see what we can do for you.
